Summer Internships Announcement

The Alleghany Foundation in Covington, Virginia, is sponsoring a summer internship program in 2018 for undergraduate or graduate students who desire experience related to philanthropy, the non-profit sector, research, economic development, public health, communications, or community service in the Alleghany Highlands.  Internships are for a period of at least six consecutive weeks during the summer and may extend up to eight weeks.  The starting date is approximately Monday, June 4, but negotiable.  The Foundation provides a stipend for internships as well as an additional housing stipend if the intern does not live within commuting distance of The Alleghany Foundation or Alleghany Highlands.

Natives of the Alleghany Highlands, residents, and/or students attending accredited colleges or universities in the state or region are eligible to apply.  Applicants must demonstrate an interest in philanthropy, the non-profit sector, economic development, public health and/or community service.  Applicants must also demonstrate strong communication skills, personal responsibility, self-motivation and strong computer skills.  Website technology and information management would be preferred.

The internships provide unique opportunities for students to explore interests with the goal of informing future career pathways.  Preference is given to students who have completed a minimum of two years of college coursework.  Interested candidates should email a cover letter, resume, and brief writing sample to info@alleghanyfoundation.org by February 28, 2018.
