$35,000 in Prizes Available to Nonprofits in Year Three of Give Local Alleghany Highlands

This May 23rd, nonprofits will be competing for $35,000 in prizes during the third year of Give Local Alleghany Highlands. In its first two years, this event has sent over $350,000 to nonprofits that support residents of Alleghany County and the City of Covington. The prize money for this year will be provided by The Alleghany Foundation and Ingevity.

Ingevity will send $1,500 to the nonprofit organization that raises the most money between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm on May 23rd. This one-hour fundraising sprint is one of six “power hours” that will take place during the event and represents a portion of the $35,000 in prizes that will be available for nonprofit organizations to win during this big day of giving.

“Ingevity is pleased to support this effort of giving back to the local community as we strive to be a positive influence along with manufacturing products that purify, protect, and enhance the world around us,” said Amela Morgan, Ingevity Plant Manager.

Taking place on May 23rd, Give Local Alleghany Highlands is an online, 24-hour fundraising event. This program will give all participating nonprofits an electronic platform to receive donations from local philanthropists, businesses, and community members.

“We’re thrilled to see such generous support from Ingevity in year three of Give Local Alleghany Highlands. This event provides a valuable opportunity for nonprofits to come together and raise funds to support the essential work they do in our community. We encourage all area nonprofits and community members to get involved and help make this year’s event a success,” said Teresa Hammond, Executive Director, Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.

In addition to the $9,000 that will be awarded to nonprofits through the six fundraising “power hours,” The Alleghany Foundation will also award $16,000 to the nonprofits that raise the most money overall on May 23rd, and $3,000 will be awarded in randomly drawn $200 “golden tickets” that will be selected every hour between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM on May 23rd. To ensure that all participating organizations receive at least some prize money, The Alleghany Foundation will divide a $7,000 prize pool equally among all nonprofits that receive at least ten donations of $5 or more during the event.

The competitive prizes will be split up between large and small nonprofits organizations to ensure that groups of all sizes are able to participate in Give Local Alleghany Highlands. More information about the prizes available during Give Local Alleghany Highlands is available at www.givelocalah.org.

“These prizes add an exciting element to the event and help community members make a big difference for their favorite nonprofits,” said Mary Fant Donnan, Executive Director, The Alleghany Foundation.
